Message from our President

As the 2024-2025 President of our Club, I welcome our members, fellow Rotarians, friends, and guests. Thanks for joining our weekly meeting!

Disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires in Zones 33/34 are serious challenges. When they happen, Rotarians are ready to help. People not in the affected areas can support by donating money. In the early stages of recovery, cash donations are vital. Recent Hurricanes Helene and Milton have caused severe damage in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, leaving many families in need. Rotary Zones 33/34 quickly respond to help the hardest-hit regions, but recovery will need strong support. Your donation can help these communities rebuild. Please share this message with anyone who might wish to contribute. Please click here to contribute to the recovery efforts.

WEEKLY FUNNY WITH SHAGS

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Steven "Shags" Shagrin!

Secret Formula

The police recently arrested a man selling "secret formula" tablets he claimed gave eternal youth.

When going through their files they noticed it was the fifth time he was caught for committing this same criminal medical fraud.

He had earlier been arrested in 1794, 1856, 1928, and 1983....

PROGRAM: Find Your Passion and Make Rotary Magic!

SPEAKER: Our District Governor Jill Duerig (Rotary District 5170)

We bring you a new program every week on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education and how they contribute to service to others.

This week, District 5170 District Governor Jill Duerig will share some of her thoughts on how Rotary enriches our lives and will explore with us examples of Rotary magic.

Jill Duerig joined Rotary in 2003. Due to a change in jobs, she left the Scotts Valley Club and joined the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley in 2005, serving as its President from 2019-2020. She was an Assistant Governor for Area 4 in 2020-2021 and served as Lieutenant Governor (Avenues of Service) from 2021-2023.

Jill is a retired General Manager of Zone 7 Water Agency in Livermore and a former General Manager/Chief Engineer for Scotts Valley Water District. Her passion for potable water got her involved in the Haiti National Clean Water Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy (HANWASH, a partnership between Rotary’s WASH Rotary Action Group, other NGOs, and the government of Haiti). She participates in HANWASH’s Steering Committee and chairs its Project and technical Work Group. She is also a WASH ambassador and cadré member.

Her husband of fifty years, Tom, started out as her college sweetheart. They have three married children and six grandchildren. So even though her career and Rotary focus may be water, her love of family and her history as a soccer mom, cub den mother, girl scout leader, frequent school trip chaperone, Sunday school teacher, babysitter, and grandma cookie maker demonstrates that she lives the motto "Family First."

Members and guests, please welcome DG Jill Duerig!
