Message from our President
As the 2024-2025 President of our Club, I welcome our members, fellow Rotarians, friends, and guests. Thanks for joining our weekly meeting!
Disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires in Zones 33/34 are serious challenges. When they happen, Rotarians are ready to help. People not in the affected areas can support by donating money. In the early stages of recovery, cash donations are vital. Recent Hurricanes Helene and Milton have caused severe damage in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, leaving many families in need. Rotary Zones 33/34 quickly respond to help the hardest-hit regions, but recovery will need strong support. Your donation can help these communities rebuild. Please share this message with anyone who might wish to contribute. Please click here to contribute to the recovery efforts.
WEEKLY FUNNY WITH SHAGS
We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Steven "Shags" Shagrin!
Halloween Candy Cost & Shrinkage
The cost of Halloween Candy is up 13.1% since last year, and to make matters worse, they're giving us less in every package.
For example, Good 'n Plenty is now Not Bad 'n a Few.
The $100,000 Bar is now the $27 Bite.
Then, of course, there's the new 2 Musketeers Bar.
INSPIRATION
A poem called "Lost Generation" got a lot of play on YouTube some years ago for reasons that will become obvious as you watch it. We shared it in our first year, but with an election coming up in the United States, it seems a good one to share again.

PROGRAM: How Harvest Against Hunger uses Ripple Effect Mapping to build impactful programs
SPEAKER: David Bobanick
We bring you a new program every week on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education and how they contribute to service to others.
Ripple Effect Mapping (REM) is an appreciative inquiry model that helps reveal the long-term impacts of programs and community investments. Harvest Against Hunger, a program of Rotary District 5030, uses REM sessions to learn how to effectively leverage its programs and resources (Harvest VISTA, Farm to Community, Capacity-building grants, WA Gleaning Network, and other collaborations) to create sustainable models to reduce hunger and food waste, while strengthening food systems across Washington state and beyond.
Our speaker, David Bobanick, is the Executive Director of Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) and a Rotary Club of Seattle member. Since David joined HAH in 2001, the organization has continued to expand its impact at the local, national, and international levels, delivering more than half a billion healthy servings of produce for those in need.
David has led the creation and development of the national Harvest VISTA program and innovative and award-winning programs focusing on shortening the connections from farm to community. In addition, David and the HAH team continue to build and scale nationally recognized programs with partners like AmeriCorps, USDA, WSDA, Washington State University, the University of Washington, and other partners to enhance food systems in communities across the United States.
David has a degree in communications from Penn State University. He has studied at the Non-Profit Executive Leadership Institute at the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Policy and Governance and the Non-Profit Management Institute at Stanford University. David was also recently named a "Food Waste Innovator" by ReFED, served on the Rotary Zone 26/27 leadership team, and currently serves on the King County Regional Food Policy Advisory Council and as a board officer for four local, statewide, and regional non-profit organizations.
Members and guests, please welcome David Bobanick!
