Message from our President

As the 2024-2025 President of our Club, I extend a warm welcome to our members, friends, and guests. Thanks for joining our weekly meeting.

WEEKLY FUNNY WITH SHAGS

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Steven "Shags" Shagrin!

Golf Balls are Like Eggs

They are both white, sold by the dozen, and a week later you have to go out and buy more.

INSPIRATION

Here's an animated piece we shared a few years ago, but it's a gem to bring back to start President Mike's year. It's a story about distinctive strengths and raises good questions about how distinctive stories can serve the efforts of a group like Southeastern Guide Dogs.

PROGRAM: Looking Back, Looking Forward

SPEAKER: Nick LaGarde and Mike Kane

Every week we bring you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others.

The Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley seeks to explore perspectives on service from across the world. The views of the speakers in our programs are their own and, unless stated otherwise, are not necessarily reflective of the views of our eClub or Rotary International.

If you have an idea for a cool speaker, please feel free to reach out to them directly or submit THIS FORM so our Program Committee can contact them!

This week, we'll hear from Nick LaGarde and Mike Kane.

As we record, Nick is the president of the eClub of Silicon Valley for 2023-2024. As he wraps up his year, Nick is excited to reflect back on the challenges and successes of the Rotary year.

Nick is a proud father of four and the partner of fellow eClub Rotarian Tatiana. During the work week, Nick helps nonprofits make the most of their mission of helping others through strategy, technology, and business transformation, primarily focusing on the implementation of Salesforce. Connect with Nick on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicklagarde/

Mike is our new President for 2024-2025 and is a technology enthusiast. He is excited to share some thoughts about our upcoming Rotary year. Mike’s early career in computers began in Los Angeles in the mid-1960s and later led to a move to Silicon Valley in 1976. During his time in Silicon Valley, he held senior management positions at Intel, Apple, Oracle, IBM Global Services, and US Web/CKS. In 2004, Mike left the corporate world and founded WorkgroupIT, an IT consulting and services company.

In 2013, Mike joined the Rotary Club of Los Gatos Morning, serving multiple terms on the board and as the club webmaster. After relocating to Lincoln, CA, in 2020, Mike joined the eClub of Silicon Valley to stay connected to District 5170 and be part of the "new" Rotary model focused on service but independent of weekly in-person meetings. After a long career without much spare time, Rotary, particularly the eClub of Silicon Valley, has been a perfect way to give back and prioritize Service Above Self.

Mike has served as Club Secretary and is now the President-elect for the 2024-2025 term. Additionally, Mike has been married to Jeanie for 56 years and is a proud parent of four adult children and four grandchildren.

Members and guests, please welcome Nick and Mike!

THE ATTENDANCE SURVEY

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done.

We have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeup.

Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.

For all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!

Important: Once you submit the Attendance Survey below, please make sure you see the confirmation message. If you get an error message instead, please try the 'submit' button again, and if that doesn't work, please refresh the page and fill out the form again. Thanks!
