Welcome to the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley!
Here’s a message from President Andrew:
Greetings Rotarians and Guests,This week we have our very own International Service Chair, Angela Hoang, talking to us about how rewarding it can be to connect with your local Rotary Club and do service through them. I've personally visited a few clubs in my area and I've always found them to be incredibly welcoming places. You'll find just how different each club is from how they conduct meetings to what kinds of projects they're interested in. But the one constant among Rotary clubs is that they love service and they love having fun doing it. It may be intimidating to visit a new club but I think you'll find it quite rewarding!
Sincerely,
Andrew Taw,
PresidentRotary eClub of Silicon Valley
Weekly Funny with the Lady of Laughter (LOL)
We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Yvonne Kwan, our “Lady of Laughter!”
This week, I'm in the wilderness with my 5th graders at science camp, so here are some jokes that are a little in-tents!
What did the limestone say to the geologist?Don't take me for granite!
What is the color of the wind?Blew!
How do you catch a squirrel?Climb a tree and act like a nut!
Weekly Inspiration
Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.
Accessible only by horseback, a remote village in Mongolia has stood as the epicenter of reindeer herding for thousands of years. The nomadic Dukha people have been passing down their herding heritage for generations. Today, they remain the last reindeer herders in the world. Due to harsh weather conditions, more and more herders are moving to the cities, leaving the Mongolian tradition on the brink of extinction. But for the families left in the area, it is an honor to keep alive the culture and practices of their ancestors before them.
World of
Herring curtains’ spawn a recovery
Under the waters of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, along docks in the seaside community of Madeira Park, a population is quietly expanding. Hand-sewn curtains, supplied by Rotarians, provide a crucial spawning environment for herring, which are a primary food source for salmon and marine mammals in the Salish Sea.

Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Rushton from San Jose, CA, USA reporting on a chat with Olukunle from Lagos, Nigeria.
Last week I had the pleasure of connecting with Olukunle Abolade, one of our newest members, as part of Coffee with a Rotarian. Olukunle (pronounced like it is spelled, by the way) got to us as a number of members have - interested in Rotary but very busy, was told about online clubs, and is into technology, so a good fit with us. His work covers websites, and web and mobile applications, so he may end up being a good resource for Tzviatko, who handles our site! I also asked what his name means, and the answer is, "God is in the house." Very cool!
We encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian. You can sign up here!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)
Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!
This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.
Brian Liddicoat made a $15 donation.Have a great week, friends!
Sandra Stabile made a $20 donation.I am happy because I am going to Myanmar in February with Alliance for Smiles to do cleft lip and cleft palate repairs. Our trip received a Rotary Global Grant and we will be working with the amazing Rotary Club of Yangon.
Rory Olsen made a $20 donation.Almost retired!
Share your happy dollars thoughts with us and help with doing good around the world.

Here are the comments selected from last week’s meeting.
Mark Dohn said:Weekly dose of inspiration received! Edward, thank you so much for sharing Project Amigo with us. I believe this may be one of the most comprehensive service organizations I've learned about. Hats off to the Founders/Rotarians who have created such a wonderful program!
Carey Lai said:Edward, thanks for your sharing. Great program and keep up the good work !
Keith Marsh said:Edward: Thanks of the program. I first volunteered at Project Amigo when I was President of my club in 1997. Founders Ted Rose and Susan Hill are still good friends. Every year since then I have sponsored two students. It is a great program and I hope to get back again soon.
Be sure to leave a comment at the end of this week’s meeting after you watch the program below, and perhaps you’ll see your comment featured next week!
Program: Terra-connect
Speaker: Angela Hoang and Brett Sham
Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others. Special thanks to member Roger Plested for leading our club's Programs Committee in finding us amazing speakers each week.
Engaging with your local terra Rotary club - it's not as terra-fying as you think!Club members (and newlywed couple) Angela Hoang and Brett Sham will be talking about two of our club's focus areas - entrepreneurship and service - and how the two have come together for them, including how it has created opportunities for them to connect with a terra Rotary club in their local area and how that has then led to new avenues to grow their small start-up business.
Share your thoughts or ask our speaker a question in the comments at the bottom of this meeting page!
Upcoming Program Recording Schedule
All of our guest speakers and programs are recorded live online over Zoom video conference. We welcome members and guests to join us in one of these upcoming recordings. Recordings are approximately 30 minutes long and are subject to change without notice.

You’re Almost Done! One last thing: The Attendance Survey…
Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done. First, we have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.
Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeups.Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.More importantly, for all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment below in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!
