Welcome to the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley!

Here’s a message from President Andrew:

Greetings Members and Guests,Many of us in the U.S. are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving. It's a time of much movement and activity. Travel plans have been made, packing has been procrastinated, kitchens will begin to steam, broil, fry, and sautee. Family members will squabble in ways only family members can, folks will be missed and those present will be embraced. Even the outdoors will be in a hurry to lose leaves or bury nuts for the winter. But, hopefully, for many of us, there will come a pause, a moment not to hurry. There will come a time to be grateful for what lives we've lived and the people we've shared it with.As members and guests of this e-Club, we hail from far and wide; so we won't be able to bustle together in a kitchen or around a table so I wanted to say, ahead of time, that I am grateful to have gotten to know so many of you and I am thankful for the opportunity to know so many more. I know there is both cooking talent and voracious appetites in this club so, whether you're celebrating Thanksgiving or not, let's share what we're cooking or what we're about to eat (or plates licked clean) with photos or videos in the Disqus below so that, in some small way, we get to share a table with each other.

Sincerely,

Andrews-Sig-on-Trans.png

Andrew Taw,

PresidentRotary eClub of Silicon Valley

Weekly Funny with the Lady of Laughter (LOL)

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Yvonne Kwan, our “Lady of Laughter!”

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful that each of you continue to find my jokes worthy of a chuckle each week. Here are some more that you can gobble up.

What does a turkey's phone sound like?Wing, wing! Wing, wing!

Why did the turkey get kicked out of the band?He lost his drumsticks!

What do you call it when it rains turkeys?Fowl weather!

Weekly Inspiration

Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.

Sometimes, against a uniform, bright background such as a clear sky or a blank computer screen, you might see things floating across your field of vision. What are these moving objects, and how are you seeing them? Michael Mauser explains the visual phenomenon that is floaters.

World of

rotary-logo-e1535116382412.png

One hundred years ago this month, World War I came to an end. At least 1,800 Rotarians from North America and Great Britain served in the military during that war; hundreds more enlisted in the Red Cross, the YMCA, and various government departments. More than 50 gave their lives. On the anniversary of Armistice Day, we look back at how the war unfolded in the pages of The Rotarian.

Coffee With a Rotarian

A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.

This week we have Rory from Houston, Texas reporting on a chat with Angela from Sydney, Australia .

Angela and I just finished a nice CWR. We introduced ourselves to each other and then introduced our cats to us and the other cats. The cats were not impressed with the other cats. Angela and I hit it off better.Angela is a pharmacist and I am a probate judge, so we had much to talk about because our respective occupations overlap, both being affected by changes in the overall society, medicine and social services.CWR is a valuable program which I strongly encourage all of our club members to participate in monthly.

We encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian. You can sign up here!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good

Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.

Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week! This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.

BDL said:This is so cool! Nothing puts me in a good mood like hearing two newlyweds relive their wedding. Lots of work getting ready for the big day but it should be the best day of your lives! Super-Congratulations! And what a spectacular-looking bride! Obligatory 'best marriage advice", from my late father: "Marriage is not give and take: it is 100% give on both sides".

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done. First, we have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeups.Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.More importantly, for all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment below in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!
