Weekly Funny with the Lady of Laughter (LOL)

Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Maxi from Mountain View, CA, USA reporting on a chat with Rushton from San Jose, CA, USA.
Rushton just finished a series of conferences on education across the states of Indiana, Virginia and Iowa (he is currently there). He is looking forward to getting back to the Bay Area and enjoying a week with his wife and his cats, and then getting ready for a trip to Japan.I shared my plans of starting a graduate program next year and he shared his points of view, which I really appreciated. It is always great talking with Rushton, and I look forward for the next CWR!

Our club recently did a school supply donation to Scott Lane Elementary School.This donation was even featured in the Silicon Valley Voice - a local newspaper! Read the article here.Each year, the District Council of Interact 5170 hosts a Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) to inspire Interactors to learn how to grow as leaders and give back to their communities through service. This year's event drew 3,000 Interactors from around the district and beyond. It's also a tradition for Interact 5170 to reveal its theme, community project, and international project during FLC. This year's theme -- chosen by the Interact District Governor and Lt. Governor -- is "Remember Your Roots"; the community project -- chosen by the Community Coordinator -- is "Future in Focus," which will focus on helping foster youth in the community have access to food, transportation, and vision tests; the international project -- chosen by the International Coordinator -- is "Se Necesita Un Pueblo," translating to "It takes a village," focusing on the Venezuelan crisis. Remember, you’re only taking advantage of the full impact of Rotary when you’re stepping up to get involved.
Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! I really appreciated your ideas about creating new meeting methods and content, plus multi-meeting special events to aid District Governors in contacting all meetings in their region. On a personal note, joining this Rotary eclub helped me take off 40 lbs. and save $2600 each year, since I was no longer eating $22 catered lunches each week nor paying high fees and mandatory donations and fines, at "bricks and mortar" Rotary club meetings. Now, my retiree money goes toward supporting local charitable efforts and service projects. I applaud your focus on partnerships with the United Nations as well. Global collaborations and affiliations promote peace and goodwill, healing divisions. Best wishes on your coming year of service.

I've been a Rotarian since the age of 3 when my dad joined, and his uncle was a charter member of the Youngstown, Ohio, Club in 1915 and was the first Rotarian to be closing in on 50 years of perfect attendance when he died 6 months shy. My dad had 46 years of PA at his passing, and I'm now at 36, so Rotary is very much a family thing. I remember running the film-strip projector at home when my dad hosted Fireside Chats to recruit his friends and clients, so I was able to talk about Rotary and the Avenues of Service since age 7 or so! The Club always was focused on family involvement: Girard-Liberty, Ohio. Thanks for sharing your time with us!
Nathan Gildart said:Thank you for the presentation Mark. I'm heartened to hear your feelings with regard to equity in Rotary and family-friendly initiatives. Your ideas, including that to establish more clubs, has potential to make Rotary more impactful. I was also interested to hear about Rotary's work with UN agencies - something we don't often hear about. I'll do a little more reading on my own as my interest has been piqued. As Rotary grows hopefully we'll see in Rotary leadership a more realistic representation of the people we share the planet with.
