Welcome to the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley!
Message from President Mitty
Being grateful.
Members and returning guests, it's great to see you again -- welcome back!New visitors and visiting Rotarians, welcome to the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley's meeting for the week of Thanksgiving! As we spend our days this week with friends and family, Thanksgiving is a time to take a few moments to reflect and to be grateful. We often forget to show our gratitude to those who are closest to us -- not because we don't love them, but because we expect them to already know that we love them and appreciate them. I encourage each of you this week to tell someone why you're grateful for them. While there are many people and many things I am grateful for, I want to start by being grateful to our past president Rushton. As charter president of this club, Rushton was the instigator that formed this club and kept it together throughout our entire first year and a half. Rushton has also been an excellent mentor, and been an instrumental resource and friend. Thank you Rushton!I also am grateful for my entire board -- Allen, Shags, Chris, Andrew, Tzviatko, Yvonne, Stephen, and Rushton -- for all of their support and their leadership so far. Thank you all!And most importantly, I am grateful for my members. Each of you who attend meetings regularly, support the club in its functions, and for being the amazing people you each are. It warms my heart because I know each of you, despite the fact we may not regularly see each other or regularly work on the same projects, are all connected together through Rotary and that you are all making a difference in someone's life. The meeting this week is abbreviated to let you spend more time with your friends and family, but I want to point out that this week's happy dollars go towards feeding the hungry through meals from Stop Hunger Now. It's one of the first times we have had a happy dollars benefiting the same organization as is the one presenting to us, so you'll see it has a different location in the meeting this week. I encourage each of you to consider making a small donation -- any amount you are comfortable with. Even $1 makes a difference -- that can buy three meals!Thank you for being here, and have a wonderful week!
Yours in service,
Mitty Chang,
President
Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley

Weekly Inspiration: Kids Try 100 Years of Thanksgiving Food
Every week we bring you videos of innovation, inspiration, and entrepreneurship. This week we are featuring a video from Bon Appétit, featuring kids trying out 100 years of Thanksgiving food! Gobble gobble!
It's always good to see our history (including food history), and sometimes even better seeing someone else experience our food history! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Laughing Out Loud (L.O.L.) with our Lady of LOLs
We believe that laughing a little every day keeps you healthier. Every week we try to share with you something that will make you smile! This section is curated by Rotarian Yvonne Kwan, our club’s “Lady of LOLs.”
Thanksgiving week! So turkey jokes, naturally.
What do you get when you cross a turkey with a banjo?
A turkey that can pluck itself!
Why did the police arrest the turkey?
They suspected it of fowl play.
What smells the best at a Thanksgiving dinner?
Your nose.

November 30 will be entered into the gift exchange pool. Participating members will then be notified by the system of who you have been randomly selected to be the "Secret Santa" for! Your mission is to send a Christmas gift that you think the person you get would enjoy. Participating members will also be able to add wishlists and also be asked to complete a short survey about some of their favorite things, to help your Secret Santa with shopping for your gift. All members, regardless of where you live, are encouraged to participate! The beauty of living in a world with shipping and the internet is that an international Secret Santa is possible as well! Selected Six
Every week at the bottom of our meetings, there is a comments section for members and guests to tell us what they enjoyed about the meeting or to ask questions to the speaker. We select six comments every week from last week’s meeting to be featured during this week’s meeting.
Here are six comments selected from last week's meeting about Presentation Confidence:
From member Richard Knaggs (South Africa):
"Hi Everyone. Mitty I am worried that those Snapchat glasses are going to result in privacy issues. They are cool though. Welcome Felmer it is fantastic to have you as a member. Thank you Dr. Greenstreet, that was the most useful programme I have heard on public speaking. I look forward to sharing this with fellow speakers."
From member Keith Marsh (California, USA):
“Robert, thank you for this program and your service to Rotary. Welcome, Felmer."
From member Nicole Pham (California, USA):
“YAYAY so happy to have you join our club Felmer. (': I am so proud to be your sponsor. Thank you Dr. Greenstreet for talking to us! I also really enjoyed the Spectacles video! I didn't know that's how people started having them. Mystery solved."
From member Andrew Taw (California, USA):
“Thanks for your presentation Robert! Welcome Felmer!"
From member Brian Liddicoat (California, USA):“Great stuff! As a trial lawyer, I can say that nothing dispels the terror of public speaking like doing it a lot. And. Always. Speak. Slowly. Always speak a little slower than you think you need to....“From member Ferheen Abbasi (Osaka, Japan):
"Welcome to the group, Felmer!! Your unicycle is awesome :) Dr. Greenstreet, thank you so much for the wonderful presentation! I took a Public Speaking course at community college and it touched on many of the points you mentioned! I love giving presentations because I love sharing knowledge. To give a really cool scientific perspective, on a physiological level, the nervousness of public speaking stems from the fight or flight response due to the increase of adrenaline, with a majority of people tending towards flight. Sweat palms, rapid breathing, heart pumping really fast, blood vessels contracting, etc. However, this is exactly the same response our body has when it's ready to fight! So, the moment I start feeling nervous before a presentation, I remind myself that I'm not running, I'm fighting! I channel that energy from negative to positive and it makes a huge difference. That and I remind myself that the response is something that makes me more human, that I am alive - I cherish it! PS. Super excited to meet you all on Thursday!! Can't believe I'm going home after a year!! :)“
Thank you everyone for attending last week’s meeting!
Be sure to leave a comment at the end of this week’s meeting after you watch the program below, and perhaps you’ll see your comment featured next week!
The Program
Every week we bring to you a program on innovation, education, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian service. Our guest speaker this week is Pattie Hofland Mackenzie, the International Development Officer of Stop Hunger Now.
Stop Hunger Now is a non-profit organization based in North Carolina. USA, that operates meal packaging programs at 20 cities in the U.S. and in South Africa, Malaysia, India, Italy, Peru and the Philippines. Their mission is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable and creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. Our guest, Pattie Hofland Mackenzie, is the International Development Officer at Stop Hunger Now. Pattie is from Linville, North Carolina and graduated from North Carolina State University. Pattie is currently a Rotaractor, and was first introduced to Stop Hunger Now in college.Without giving away any more of her story with Stop Hunger Now (which she explains in the program), please join me in welcoming Pattie from Stop Hunger Now!

If you have any questions for Pattie, please feel free to leave a comment or question at the bottom of this meeting page.
Happy Dollars
Each week we ask our members to share news with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal for this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each other, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it's appropriate!)
Last week's happy dollars went towards supporting our club activities! Here are messages from last week's happy dollars:
From member Rory Olsen ($15):"Polio plus, please"
From guest Rex Young:"I am a member of the RC of Pacific Grove, CA. I found Dr Greenstreet's presentation informative. I have previously used your eClub as a makeup but also have enjoyed other programs and listened to them even though I didn't need a makeup."
From member Brian Liddicoat ($15):"About to host my son's first overnight slumber party for 11 boys. May God be with me."
Thank you all for your donations last week!
This week's happy dollars goes towards providing meal packages to the hungry through Stop Hunger Now. We will use the money for the Stop Hunger Now meal packaging service project in January.
So what are you happy about? Share with us below!

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done. First, we have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

This part is optional for you though. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.More importantly, for all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment below in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!
