Message from our President
Hello members,
This month, we're celebrating and focusing on the Rotary Foundation, for which our club has ambitious goals this year. Every Rotarian recognizes the importance of the Rotary Foundation in funding many projects around the world and making an impact on many people's lives. One of the most impressive aspects of the Rotary Foundation (and Rotary in general) is that it is supported by a global network of Rotarians who are committed to devoting their time, money, and skills to significant cause areas. The desire to serve others unites Rotarians everywhere, but there is another factor that we often overlook, which is friendship.
Friendship is the foundation stone upon which Rotary was constructed, and continues to be one of the most enduring, inspiring values I've ever observed in Rotary. However, what does friendship mean in the context of an e-club? When I first learned about the existence of e-clubs, I immediately realized that this new Rotary concept would have introduced members to a whole new level of Rotarian involvement, which could have had, in turn, an impact on the concept of Rotarian friendship. True friendship is often associated with in-person relations and exchange, but it doesn't matter where and how we meet; it's the type of connection that counts.
So, considering all of these possibilities, my question here is, what does friendship mean to OUR club? The eClub of Silicon Valley has a unique advantage as we have the potential to create and cultivate friendships through our technological and global nature. These characteristics enable us to immerse ourselves in various service opportunities while experiencing new cultures and broadening our global understanding and perspectives. That is why I am a big fan of virtual social activities. Our club has limitless options to be structured around cultural, service, or vocational experiences, which can lead to long-term relationships. Our recent Italy online social was pretty awesome, and representatives from our Hawaii sister club joined us, too! Cecelia and I had a great time touring our members virtually around our neighborhoods, food stalls, castles, and other local attractions. Our Membership Committee is planning more fun things like that, and you're welcome to join too! Actually, if you have a chance to participate in one of our online socials, we'd appreciate it if you could invite your families and friends. Additionally, our Coffee with a Rotarian (CWR) program has just started up again, so take this opportunity to get to know both new and existing members better! Let's try increasing and strengthening our circle of Rotarian friends, and please join me in sharing the belief that e-clubs like ours will help Rotary become more interconnected. Let’s make it happen!

HAPPY DOLLARS: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)

Since February 24, 2022, dramatic changes have taken place in Ukraine, and many people are now desperate, hurt, and hopeless. In an effort to address this, members of Rotary clubs in Romania became strongly involved in helping Ukrainian refugees and people in high need.
Rotary Clubs in Romania and abroad have inspired and supported more local NGO's with direct involvement in distributing humanitarian aid in Ukraine and Republic of Moldova to help Ukrainian displaced persons. Other organizations have joined forces to save people against the horrors of the current war. While the needs are extensive, these efforts are providing some of these people hope and confidence.
Our speaker, Dacian Gabriel Coita, has been a Rotarian for over twenty years, first in Rotary Club Oradea, and now in the international eclub, Rotary Club Pathumwan Bangkok, based in Thailand. He has held various finance-related positions with businesses in Romania, with a focus on Oradea, Bucharest, and several other cities. Dacian holds an MA degree from the Faculty of Economic Studies, Timișoara, Romania, as well as a dual degree with Sophia Antipolis University, Nice, France.
