How to Make Better Decisions with AI

In briefAI summary — tap to read
Mo Lei Fong teaches a research-backed framework for making better decisions using AI as a thinking partner, not just an answer machine. She guides listeners through identifying the real problem beneath surface issues, establishing values-based guiding principles, and applying the WRAP model (Widen options, Reality-test assumptions, Attain distance, Prepare to be wrong) to overcome cognitive biases and communicate decisions effectively.
Key takeaways
- Use frame-storming and the "five whys" technique to uncover the true problem you're solving, not just the one you initially stated.
- Establish guiding principles based on your core values, then convert those values into action verbs that inform decision-making.
- Apply the WRAP framework to counteract four major decision-making biases: narrow framing, confirmation bias, short-term emotions, and overconfidence.
- AI can help you brainstorm options, challenge assumptions, clarify values, and communicate decisions better, but remains subject to the same implicit biases present in its training data.
- Strategic, thoughtful prompting and experimentation with AI tools yields better results than casual queries, and no decision is permanent if you need to pivot later.

Program: How to Make Better Decisions with AI
Speaker: Mo Lei Fong
Every week we bring you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how they contribute to service to others.
We make decisions every day that shape our careers, teams, and organizations, yet most of us were never taught how to decide well. In this talk, Mo Fong introduces a research-backed framework for better decision making and shows how AI can serve as a thought partner, challenger, and bias-checker — helping you clarify what's really at stake, surface blind spots you didn't know you had, and move toward a decision with greater confidence and clarity. Whether you're navigating a career crossroads, a strategic tradeoff, or a difficult team decision, this talk will change how you approach the choices that matter most.
