Weekly Inspiration
Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.
The vast majority of people who’ve lost a limb can still feel it — not as a memory or vague shape, but in complete lifelike detail. They can flex their phantom fingers and sometimes even feel the chafe of a watch band or the throb of an ingrown toenail. What causes these phantom limb sensations? Joshua W. Pate explains how the brain reacts to a missing limb.

Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Ferheen from Santa Clara, CA, USA reporting on a chat with Carlos from Monterrey, México.
Carlos is an absolute delight to talk to. He's an amazingly talented teacher who knows so many fun historical facts. I mentioned a few weeks ago at the social that I am a descendant of the Abbasid Dynasty (I'm a princess lol) and today Carlos taught me about my family history! I must definitely read up on this history. We talked about immigration and its benefits, India and its multitude of states (that really should be their own countries!), and family names. I truly enjoyed my Coffee With Carlos and hope to chat with him in person when he makes a trip up to San Francisco!
We encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian. You can sign up here!

This year's event drew 3,000 Interactors from around the district and beyond. It's also a tradition for Interact 5170 to reveal its theme, community project, and international project during FLC. This year's theme -- chosen by the Interact District Governor and Lt. Governor -- is "Remember Your Roots"; the community project -- chosen by the Community Coordinator -- is "Future in Focus," which will focus on helping foster youth in the community have access to food, transportation, and vision tests; the international project -- chosen by the International Coordinator -- is "Se Necesita Un Pueblo," translating to "It takes a village," focusing on the Venezuelan crisis. Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week! This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.
Rory Olsen made a $20 donation. All is well. Go Astros! Please apply my gift to Polio Plus!
Nan Herron made a $25 donation.I am SO happy to be accepted to this e-group of incredible people!
Share your happy dollars thoughts with us and help with doing good around the world.Unless otherwise designated in your message, all Happy Dollars this week will go towards supporting Safari Doctors!
Selected Comments
Every week at the bottom of our meetings, there is a comments section for members and guests to tell us what they enjoyed about the meeting or to ask questions to the speaker. We select a few comments every week from last week’s meeting to be featured during this week’s meeting.
Here are the comments selected from last week’s meeting.
Rushton Hurley said:Interesting stuff. The more we use data like this to figure out where issues are, the easier it will be to determine causes effectively. It would seem to make sense for this to happen across several colleges (and perhaps high schools, too) in order to validate what comes via reporting of individuals.I was very impressed with the Rotary article about the 360-degree film, Two Drops of Patience. Having the story told by a Rotaractor from Uganda made it all the more interesting to read, as well. It's always good to get a reminder how truly personal these stories of Rotary Foundation efforts are.
Brett Sham said:Gwen ana Sufyan, thanks for taking the time and for a really interesting presentation. Looks like really great work. Here in Sydney we get bad air pollution conditions during back burning / hazard reduction burns and quite often there are complaints from people that have respiratory conditions that suffer from the poor quality.
Mark Dohn said:Great meeting. The way in which we can use technology now to monitor in realtime vs. samples is a great point. It makes me wonder more about following the use of sensors in conjunction with the crowd-sourcing model to get more accurate data.
Be sure to leave a comment at the end of this week’s meeting after you watch the program below, and perhaps you’ll see your comment featured next week!
Program: Safari Doctors - Making the #JourneyForChange
Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others. Special thanks to member Roger Plested for leading our club's Programs Committee in finding us amazing speakers each week.
The presentation will take viewers on our #JourneyForChange in remote parts of Lamu, in northeastern Kenya. It will give them an idea of the challenges marginalized, indigenous communities face in accessing health services, how we are trying to help and the hurdles and small victories we've experienced along the way.

You’re Almost Done! One last thing: The Attendance Survey…
Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done. First, we have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.
Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeups.Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.More importantly, for all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment below in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!
