Greetings Rotarians and Guests,Happy New Rotary Year to you all!As we start on this journey together I wanted to once again summarize my goals for our club for this year:1. Grow our club's impact in our global community2. Improve member happiness and engagement3. Make club operations more efficientI look forward to our collective efforts to make this happen, as we are already starting to make progress!- We just approved a contribution to a telemedicine project in India through Global Offsite Care.- You will all be getting a membership survey in your emails in the coming days to help us learn where we stand as a club and what we'll need to do to get better.- This week we are launching some automation of backend processes to better keep track of meeting attendance!This week's speaker, Nikole Lim from Freely in Hope, is a real inspiration. She will tell us about how we can better support survivors of abuse, trauma or violence. Weekly Inspiration
Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.
This video tells the story of a school in India started by two dedicated people interested in helping children who were dropping out of school and also doing something about plastic in the environment. Their innovative solution is one that should inspire all of us who feel strongly about our focuses in this eclub!

Through a Rotarian's Lens

A few years ago, I went to photograph the Milky Way over Caples Lake south of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada. I knew this would be a good location because there is not much light polution to the south of this small fishing lake. The owners of a resort on the lake gave me a free night in exchange for a copy of the photo. The foreground part of the photo was taken just after sunset so that the sail boat and rocks would be exposed. To make it look like the stars are being reflected in the lake, I inverted the night sky and added a slight blur in Photoshop.
Tech Tidbit
Hi, everyone! If you're looking for a fun tech tidbit, we're hoping you've come to the right place. Rushton and a team of super-secret, hush-hush, James Bond-ish Rotary types will create one or two of these a month, if (a) they feel like it, and (b) y'all seem to like them.
This one is on keyboard shortcuts for browser tabs, and includes Rushton revealing the most useless site on the internet. There is also a screenshot cameo by Weird Al Yankovic, which is the first time that sentence has been used in one of our club meetings. Learn and enjoy.Feel free to critique the video mercilessly in the comments at the end of the meeting, as well. It was made in one try, and I'm sure it shows.
Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Nate from Nagoya, Japan reporting on a chat with Carlos from Monterrey, México.

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.

Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others. Special thanks to member Roger Plested for leading our club's Programs Committee in finding us amazing speakers each week.
Freely in Hope journeys alongside of people who have experienced abuse, trauma, or violence. In the journey from victim to survivor, we will discuss how we can be better listeners and advocates by allowing survivors to reclaim their story with dignity, power, and healing. This workshop will also share the methods of healing that have been integral for Freely in Hope—including the power of storytelling and meditation as a practice of healing.
