Greetings Rotarians and Guests,It’s going to be May this week. Our members in the northern hemisphere are likely excited for the warmer days to come. This is also the time of spring and new beginnings, as we see our environment change, flowers bloom, and trees regain their color.For me, this time is extra special as it means we are just two short months away from the new Rotary year. As you watch this week’s program about my experience at the Presidents Elect Training Seminar (PETS) in Zimbabwe please think about how you’d like to see our club evolve and post your thoughts in the comments section below!

Through a Rotarian's Lens

This photo was not planned. While photographing the Milky Way at Crater Lake in Oregon, a young man from another group decided to climb this dead tree with his flash light. He held this position for nearly 30 sections while I and other took the photo in near darkness.
Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Nan from Penngrove, CA, USA reporting on a chat with Ferheen from Santa Clara, CA, USA.
Ferheen is INCREDIBLE as we all know. I forgot to tell her, but I may just have to appoint myself as her second mom, or maybe partner in all-things-international-to-save-the-world.Well, first we talked about the supreme fabulousness of cats. And, she met my new kittens, Cosmo and Felix, and she met my son, Sam, with whom she has in common passions of cats and Japan.The we talked about our life stories, and our common passion for the world of medicine, since I am a physician and Ferheen is applying to med school next year ..... and we know she's going to wow everyone she meets! We talked about the incredible field of reproductive medicine, psychiatry in Japan, the interface of mindfulness, neuroscience and medicine, and the inextricability of mind and body. She is going to connect me with her telemedicine buddies, and she and I are looking into ways our Rotary chapter can expand and do more international medical and mental health service trips.I am SO excited about my new fabulous find and look forward to networking together in the many years ahead!

February 2019 Club Announcements
"Hi! Do you have any questions about the club?" - The New Facebook Chatbot on Main Pages. If you have visited any of our non-meeting pages in the past few days, you'll notice that we now have a Facebook Chatbot active on our site. This is one of our new initiatives to try to convert more prospective leads into members, as well as to increase interaction between guests and our club. Messages will be responded to by our social media team. Please note this messenger chat isn't designed for club members. Members, if you still want to contact someone, please direct your notices to the email of the member or the officer you want to reach.
2019 Homepage Refresh! After hearing feedback from members, the webmasters can now say that we have finally gotten around to updating the main hero image on the homepage into something that we believe better represents the global and the digital nature of our club. We'll be periodically changing the graphic throughout the year, as we continue to refresh different parts of our site.
Join page updated! The webmaster team has done a much-needed facelift for the Join page. The start of a new year is the perfect time to share with friends and colleagues our Join page!

eClub vs. Cancer!
Our club annually gets together to support the fight against cancer, and our 2019 effort starts this week - we would like every member of this club to get involved! You can walk as part of our group at the Santa Clara Relay for Life on April 27th, donate to help fund medical research, or honor a friend or family member battling cancer.
Last Saturday was our big service shindig with Santa Clara's Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. What we raised will help with medical research, programs for survivors and caregivers, and prevention info and efforts.Did we step up? Absolutely! Twenty-two members of our club contributed in some fashion, from helping organize to sharing messages with those battling the disease to donations. And as far as money was concerned, we and those we connected with contributed over $3100 as part of the Wild Walkers team, which was the second highest-raising team with almost $17,000 raised!A special shout-out goes to Ferheen, who tapped a mountain of family and friends and single-handedly raised over $2600! Her Mom is a cancer survivor who helped carry the banner for the first lap on the track.The three-fold focus of Relay is to celebrate those who have survived a battle with cancer, remember those we've lost, and to fight back by working toward a cure. We can take pride in our club's efforts, and thanks go to Ferheen, Heather, Maxi, Yvonne, Brian, Celine, Tzviatko, Andrew, Monique, Rory, Rushton, Shags, Brett, Ange, Suzanne, Nate, Keith, Sandy, Linda, Vandana, Catherine, and Nan.You all rock!
Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.

Tzviatko Chiderov is our club's President Elect (PE). He recently attended Presidents Elect Training Seminar (PETS) in Harare, Zimbabwe as part of his preparation for the 2019-2020 Rotary year. He will tell us about it in this program.
