As we see it, our flexibility as an online, asynchronous club allows a special type of service to Rotarians around the world: we make it easier for anyone to strive for and maintain 100% attendance. That keeps you engaged with Rotary's events and ideas, and provides a moment of inspiration for devoting your creativity, talents, and resources to good causes.You are certainly not required to pay anything in order to attend our meetings. However, if you would like to make a small contribution to our service efforts, you are welcome to do so in our secure Happy Dollars section down the page. This could be what you normally pay at your own club's meetings for lunch, for example. Any amount is welcome, but first and foremost, we're happy you've joined us, and hope you will share with others who we are and what we do to help inspire Service Above Self.And don't forget to fill out our attendance form so you get an email you can pass on to your club's secretary!

Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.
At the Domaine du Capitaine Danjou winery in southeastern France, retired members of the French Foreign Legion harvest grapes and bottle red, rosé and white wine. The work is hard but therapeutic, providing a sense of purpose and peace. And you can’t beat the scenery. The property is also the site of a retirement home for those who have served in the elite branch of the French Army.

This week's Member Spotlight is Mahmood Khan! Here is what they have been up to lately:Since 2009 I have been hosting breakfast meetings for Silicon Valley local PMI (Project Management Institute) Chapter’s members and others to discuss their Profession, Job related issues, resume, brand creation, how to apply for a job, interview techniques, all related topics for their profession (Project/Program Management, IT, emerging Technologies, etc.)After the 2008 financial meltdown, there were a lot of professionals out of work and needed professional help in getting re-positioned and prepare for transition. To help them I created a program called Mentor Train Recruit (MTR). To my amazement, I continue to have professionals that still attend the weekly breakfast meetings and workshops on professional topics.Over the past 11 years there have been more than 700 individuals that have taken my one-day workshop and/or attended my job search and resume preparation seminars and/or attended multiple breakfast meetings. The breakfast meeting are free (each individual pays for their own breakfast) and the workshops range from $25-$75 all inclusive (breakfast, lunch and refreshments, and location rental expenses), depending on what the individual can afford (unemployed and people unable to pay can attend for free).I have also been involved as a board member at San Jose Conservation corps and charter school – The latest is the program for Corps Members and Teachers and their families building Mobile Tiny homes. SJCCCS has a very extensive program and I help with programs where I can.My latest passion is to help the homeless and folks with mental illness at a local level and am trying to launch an eRotary Initiative. Sandy and I have been talking and I have a short plan. I have been socializing it with the local Rotary clubs and hope to get enough combined support to get the program officially launched soon (in a month or so sponsored by our club).

The Race Track is a dry lake bed in a remote part of Death Valley. Large rocks mysteriously slide over the mud in random patterns but no one has reportedly ever seen this happen. I took this photo in 2008.

Leap Day 4-Layer Pie!!

Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Vandana from New Delhi, India reporting on a chat with Maxi from Mountain View, CA, USAMaxi and I had a WhatsApp video call on 16th Jan, 2020.After completing his computer engineering in Argentina, Maxi moved to the Silicon Valley and joined Google. Maxi joined our Rotary eClub soon after moving to US .Maxi is about 29 years old. Maxi has been a Rotarian for over a decade. He was a Rotaractor in Argentina for about 7 years and was also the founding member of a Rotary Club.Maxi has had the experience of starting an e-commerce business in Argentina before joining Google. During our conversation he mentioned about his desire of getting back to entrepreneurship and starting a company.We encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian.

February 22nd - Salaam Food Pantry with the Fremont Bridge Rotary ClubFerheen was invited by the Fremont Bridge Rotary Club to help out the Salaam Food Pantry at the Islamic Center of Fremont run by Samreen Suleman and her husband Naseer Irfan. There were dozens of other volunteers, from youth to adults, that feed community members on the 4th Saturday of each month. More than 100+ people from the community were served of various ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Should out to the Fremont Bridge Rotary Club (Geeta Kadambi, Linea McPherson, Tejinder Dhami, Raji Nagarkar & Paul Andrus) for inviting the eClub to such a wonderful event. Interested in volunteering? The next one is on March 28th!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.

Thank you so much for your presentation Judson, I appreciate your moments of realization. I have been thinking a lot about this idea of "Raising your hand." In my RYE training I remember one past YRE student saying "just say 'yes!" and have taken this in a lot of my decisions I have made in my life- and leaning into the fear or unknown of what exactly this "yes" entails, but showing up anyway. Thank you for the work you are doing!

Special thanks to member Roger Plested for leading our club's Programs Committee in finding us amazing speakers each week.The Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley seeks to explore perspectives on service from across the world. Father Peter Walters was born in 1954, and was brought up England. Having been ordained in the Anglican (Episcopal) Church, he served in a parish in Newport, Wales, and then at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk, England. He visited Colombia in 1982, and from 1984 onwards he returned there every year to spend his vacations there working as a volunteer with street-children. In 1992 he set up a charity called Let The Children Live! to raise funds in the UK to help them.Tragically, many street-children fell victim to the violence that was then raging in Colombia, so in 1994 he went to live in Medellín, where the violence was worst and the need was greatest. He then started a Colombian charity called Fundación ¡Vivan Los Niños! (Funvini) to aid children at high social risk. He was received into the Roman Catholic Church, and was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1995.Since then, Fr Peter has helped Funvini to develop programmes for children who live or work in the street; for pre-teen and teenage mothers and their babies; for children with special educational needs; and for child refugees who have fled to Medellín from Venezuela. These programmes are currently helping about 500 children.To raise funds in the the US to support this work, in 2012 Fr Peter founded Let The Children Live! Inc., a non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation domiciled in Orinda, CA. He now spends half of the year working with Funvini in Medellín, and the remainder making appeals in the UK and the US.Fr Peter has been a member of the Rotary Club of Stratford-upon-Avon, England, since 2014.
