Greetings Rotarians and Guests,As some of you already know, on the week of the 23rd, I got married! It was wonderful to be surrounded by our loved ones on a beautiful day by a pond. The celebration of the beginning of our marriage took place shortly before I turned 30 last week. It has been a celebratory time and I look forward to many celebrations to come.It is important to celebrate both big and small milestones. For instance, our fundraiser on August 11th is not just an event to raise money to do great work. It’s also a celebration of the Youth Service we’ve done and the village it takes to do more. So if you’re available and you haven’t bought a ticket yet, hop over to this link and grab a bite and drink with me and our fellow Rotarians as we celebrate another exciting year of Youth Service.

Weekly Inspiration
Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.

Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Tanya from Atlanta, GA, USA reporting on her chat with Brian from Corralitos, CA, USA.
I chatted with Brian from California's Santa Cruz area this month. He told me that he is a civil trial attorney who specializes in business and real estate law. He's a family man who has relatives in Atlanta, which is where I live. Brian is also a pilot who flies small planes and a railroad/train enthusiast. I can relate because when I was a little girl, I had a TYCO train-race car combo set from Sears that I absolutely loved, and a few years ago, I rode in an Amtrak sleeping compartment from Atlanta to NYC. Brian shares a love of railroads/trains so much that he even speaks to groups about old train systems of the West Coast.

leConge Ziesenhenne, MoniqueVolunteered with a golf fundraiser at the ALA mtg in New Orleans, supporting Spectrum ScholarshipsDid set up work for a bocce league potluck at the Galileo Club in Richmond, CANeal, CelineLast weekend while I was in Toronto the Belize Cancer Society San Ignacio Branch which I am a member of had the 5th Gala which is used to raised funds for our cancer patients. Despite being away I was able to assist in selling of tickets and preparation of the fundraiser. It was a successful one and we were able to raise around $10,000 and counting since organizations and business would call in days after to pledge towards our fundraiser in assisting the patients.D'Garay-Juncal, RaquelVolunteered at the 14th Annual Switchfoot BroAm event at Moonlight Beach as part of their efforts to raise awareness and funds for local organizations that support deserving local youth.A., CatherineI committed to monthly contributions to iFoster.org ( https://www.ifoster.org/ ) who provide educational, mentoring, job, housing and foster family support to kids in (and aging out of) the Foster Care system.Marsh, KeithA Rotary team from H2OpenDoors went to Kenya and Tanzania for the installation and maintenance of two water projects. The installation was on the Island of Lamu in Kenya. Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! Program: Conducting Research Using the CRISPR/Cas9 System
Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others.
Club member Ferheen Abbasi will be presenting the exciting gene editing technology CRISPR/Cas9 that was discovered in the Doudna Lab at UC Berkeley and has been revolutionizing research around the world. Her lab has been developing this technology since they began to use it in 2013. The Department of Experimental Genome Research at Osaka University focuses on reproductive research, trying to understand the basis of fertility. With the CRISPR/Cas9 system, the Ikawa Lab has genetically modified over 50 mouse lines and has published many papers using the knockout technology.
