Rotary Convention Starts!
New to our meetings? Then I want to welcome you to the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley's online meeting! Every week we curate inspiring and educational content in an online format like the one you're seeing here. As you continue reading, watching, and scrolling, our hope is that you'll leave feeling a little bit more inspired. As an online Rotary club, we have these asynchronous meetings online, but we also meet in-person in the Silicon Valley / San Francisco bay area for service projects and for social events. Keep reading on, and feel free to also join us for one of our in-person events if you can make it!This weekend is the start of this year's annual Rotary International Convention happening in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I'm in Atlanta right now as you read this meeting, and I'm looking forward to meeting up with 7 other of our fellow club members going to the convention: Yvonne, Kristi, Stephen, Ken, Raquel, Brett, and Angela! Very excited that our eClub will have a pretty strong presence at this year's convention. We'll need to see if we can surpass 8 members going for next year's convention in Toronto, June 2018!In next week's meeting I'll be sharing with you all insights and photos from the convention. This week though I want to talk about our last May social that happened last Monday: our sailing fellowship event spearheaded by member Ken Oku! Those of you who were interested in going may have noticed that the event was full after the first 24 hours of it being launched. We had a pretty amazing time with our "Skipper" Ken, as he took us from the Richmond piers to Angel Island, then underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and back to Richmond. Ken brought his own drone to capture some pretty amazing footage of our hike at Angel Island. We're fortunate enough that Ken took the time to put together the drone video for us, which you can experience in the recent event recap segment of this meeting. So continue reading!Huge kudos and shoutout to Ken for putting on such an amazing event. Sometimes the coolest Rotary experiences are when you're able to share an experience with a member doing something they're passionate about. While we all hope Skipper Ken will do another sailing event with us in the future, I also would love to see more members spearheading events. Think about what you enjoy doing - from hiking to eating to sailing - if you think it would be a fun social, let's make it happen!This week's program is formatted a little bit differently than our past programs. Past President Rushton came up with this wildly cool idea that we would run this week's program as an interview rather than as our normal program presentation followed by Q&A. Our guest for this week's program is Francine Hardaway, who mentors entrepreneurs and startup founders. There's a wealth of information to be learned from Francine, as you'll quickly find out as you watch this week's program. I'm glad that we're able to connect with talented people like Francine. Past Event Recap
In addition to our online meetings and hangouts, we also host in-person events in the San Francisco bay area every month. This segment is for sharing how our past events went.
Last Monday for Memorial Day, we had a sailing fellowship spearheaded by member Ken Oku. Ken is part of a sailing club up in Richmond, and was gracious enough to invite our club out for some sailing in the San Francisco bay area!We had joining us on the sailing trip club members Ken Oku, Andrew Taw, Stephen Zhou, Yvonne Kwan, Mitty Chang, Megan Breyer (and +1 Ryan), Shags Shagrin (and +1 Karen), Brett Sham, Angela Hoang, and Rotaract guest Marty Kludjian! We sailed from the Richmond piers to Angel Island, where we hiked to the top of Angel Island (great photos and video below), where we ate lunch. After the hike, we sailed off to the Golden Gate Bridge, and then returned back to the pier.Here are some photos to share:

Coffee with a Rotarian: Tzviatko & Nicole
Getting to know our fellow members and Rotarians is an important part of Rotary. Our club runs a regular initiative called "Coffee with a Rotarian," where members are paired with other Rotarians to get to know each other in a 1 on 1 coffee session either in-person or virtually. These Coffee with a Rotarian initiatives are spearheaded by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we feature a coffee session between members Tzviatko Chiderov of South Africa and Nicole Pham of Livermore, California.

"I had the pleasure of skyping Tzviatko Chiderov from many many many miles away. Tzviatko has been working in South Africa for the past few years as a consultant. I learned a lot about Tzviatko's many travels and the different places he has been in his young life. One of the things he misses the most about California and the United States are the delicious tacos that he is missing out on. I hope Tzviatko has many more adventures in his near future and gets more tacos real soon. Also I hope the African winters aren't too unbearable!" -Nicole

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it's appropriate!)

Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, education, technology, and humanitarian service. This week our guest this week is Francine Hardaway. In addition to being a serial entrepreneur, Francine is also Brand Strategist and CEO of Stealthmode Partners, an accelerator for entrepreneurs.
Francine was introduced to our club programs by our past president Rushton Hurley. Rushton first met Francine when they were both members of the Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA, and he was impressed with all the interesting contributions she made to discussions about Rotary, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
