Weekly Funny with the Lady of Laughter (LOL)

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Yvonne Kwan, our “Lady of Laughter!”

Fun fact: my car broke down this week, so I'm in the mood for some jokes to get me revved up again.

Which part of the car is the laziest? The wheels because they're always tired.

What happens when dinosaurs crash their cars?Tyrannosaurus wrecks.

When is a car like a frog? When it's being toad.

Weekly Inspiration

Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.

Hello World’s Ashlee Vance paid a recent visit to Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavik to see the next part of the green energy story. He found a start-up called Icewind that is building a new type of funky wind turbine designed to perform well in low-wind conditions but also to slow itself down in high-winds, preventing it from catching on fire or ripping apart.

World of Rotary

The people have spoken. With a majority of internet user votes, Rotary.org won the prestigious Webby People’s Voice Award for best association website. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences announced the winners on 24 April.

Coffee With a Rotarian

A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.

This week we have a special video by Mitty from CA and Beck from Sydney.https://youtu.be/9M7MnhztrnYWe encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian. You can sign up here!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good

Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.

Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!

Member Rory Olsen made a $20 donation. Here is what he had to say:Please apply my gift to Polio Plus. The post Harvey renovation of my house is moving along well. This week they are installing the new flooring.

Member Brian Liddicoat made a $15 donation. Here is what he had to say:Great time with our Rotary friends last Sunday at the Justin House Chili Cookoff in Santa Clara!

So what are you happy about? Share with us below to help with doing good around the world. This week's happy dollars will be donated to Relay for Life at Santa Clara (Sat Apr 28th - Sun Apr 29th). This is our club's work to support the American Cancer Society in its efforts to raise money for research to fight cancer.

Selected Comments

Every week at the bottom of our meetings, there is a comments section for members and guests to tell us what they enjoyed about the meeting or to ask questions to the speaker. We select a few comments every week from last week’s meeting to be featured during this week’s meeting.

Here are the comments selected from last week’s meeting.

Guest Nathan Dudden said,Congratulations to both Rachel and Vanessa, thank you for sharing your experiences, vision, and the lessons you learned from your fathers. It is inspiring to see such passionate young individuals aligned with the Rotary values and focused on a better future for all, your families must be very proud. Keep up to great work, now that you have spoken to "Making A Difference", use your voice and message to "Be the Inspiration" in the coming Rotary year.

Member Yvonne Kwan said,Well done, Vanessa and Rachel! It was a pleasure to hear both of your speeches. You two are setting a wonderful example of how young leaders today are making a difference. Thank you both! And another huge shoutout/thank you to our judges/tellers! This was our first time having international judges -- something which I think is actually pretty cool and special for our club 8^)

Member Rushton Hurley said,Loved hearing Carlos tell about his Coffee with a Rotarian meeting with Roger! Vanessa and Rachel, you both did a wonderful job with your speeches - it's always good to see such confident and talented young people sharing inspiring messages! Finally, thanks again to everyone who donated as part of our effort to raise money for cancer research with Relay for Life.

Be sure to leave a comment at the end of this week’s meeting after you watch the program below, and perhaps you’ll see your comment featured next week!

Program: Next Level Living

Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, education, technology, and humanitarian service.

This week we hear from a popular motivational speaker named Jeremy Anderson.Jeremy is the author of Next Level Teaching and other books on educational motivation. Jeremy has made it his life's work to help students and teachers become "the best version of themselves."Years ago, Jeremy experienced many challenges, such as drug and alcohol abuse and constant failure in school. He went on to receive his high school diploma as well as obtain his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, transitioning from his former challenges to become a powerful speaker inspiring students, teachers, and leaders. Today, Jeremy owns several successful businesses.Jeremy's objective is for the students to recognize the power of education so that they can experience what he will describe to us today as "Next Level Living."Members and guests, please welcome Jeremy Anderson!

You’re Almost Done! One last thing: The Attendance Survey…

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done. First, we have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeups.

Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.

More importantly, for all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment below in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!
