Weekly Inspiration: The Michelangelo of Microsoft Excel
Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change. This week we are featuring a video from Great Big Story about artistic innovation in... a unique way!
When Tatsuo Horiuchi retired, he decided to try his hand at art. But instead of spending money on paints and brushes, Horiuchi used what he already had pre-installed on his computer—Microsoft Excel. Now, the 77-year-old artist is creating remarkably intricate digital masterpieces of the Japanese landscape, all on the free graphing software.

Coffee with a Rotarian
It's back! Coffee with a Rotarian is one of our member initiatives where every month we pair Rotarians and ask them to take an hour out of their busy schedules to have a 1 on 1 chat with their fellow Rotarian. These coffee sessions happen in-person over coffee, online over coffee, and everywhere in-between. In this segment, we feature some of the stories we've heard from Rotarians and what they've learned about their fellow members.

We are currently in nominations for a President-nominee (to serve as President-elect starting July 1, 2018 and then as President on July 1, 2019), a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a Director (note: Directors serve 3-year terms). Remember, you're only taking advantage of the full impact of Rotary when you're stepping up to get involved.
Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it's appropriate!)

Thank you to member Brian Liddicoat for his generous $15 donation! Brian had this to say:"Just settled a big real estate case. Happy for the clients but I was really looking forward to trying the case to a jury. Oh, well... Getting psyched up for family trip to Disneyland next week: Haunted Mansion, here I come!"
Thank you to member Rory Olsen for his generous $15 donation to ending polio through The Rotary Foundation's Polio Plus fund. Rory had this to say:"Reconstruction of my house is continuing slowly. My cats are unhappy about it. Please apply my gift to Polio Plus."
Thank you all for your donations last week!
Happy dollars is also a great opportunity to share with the group about something good that has happened to you, while giving back to a great cause. This week's donations will go to powering our club's projects and helping with sending Interactors to PWR and RYLA!

I was so intimated being the youngest in the club. But the more meetings I attended the closer I became with my members. I can imagine how great you feel after completing a fundraiser or community service. Continue the great work you are doing and no matter how small you think your work is, always remember it's the impact that counts. I have encouraged rotaractors and prospects to always focus on how you can impact a person. That is what really matters. When you see a smile and a thank you through there eyes is when you feel you really accomplish something. Trust me you will never forget that experience. If you ever want to help in another country to experience a project, you can join our project name Adopt a village whereby we have sponsored around 80 children to attend elementary school and alomg with school supplies. We don't do high school as it is more costly for us. So we assist them with a start to an education.“

Member Catherine A. (California, USA) had this to say:“Kiana I was inspired by your dedication and kindness in efforts to aid children in crisis. Your talk reminded me of my favorite charitable effort, Liter of Light, which Illac Diaz developed as a student in the Philippines. Liter of Light began as a solar means to light the homes of the poor after the last major hurricane, using recyled liter soda bottles. Now, Liter of Light and Liter of Light at Night have gone worldwide, with chapters in the USA: [Youtube link here] (More at: http://www.literoflightusa.... ) Kudos to Keith Marsh for his beautiful photography, to Rushton for the lively CWR segment and to our team for re-posting the Great Big Story Matt Maxey "DEAFinitely Dope" video.“

We have five students in our school who have come up with an innovative design and process for water transport and storage for our rural communities and with the current drought in Cape Town this now applies to everyone. It is fantastic when entrepreneurship affects the entire community and has potential to affect the world. You are an inspiration Kiana, keep up the great work for as small as it may seem to you it is HUGE for those you are helping. As the very good man, Srini Swaminathan, I know says, "If you have nothing, then something is everything!".“

Program: International Fellowship of Rotarian Educators
Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, education, technology, and humanitarian service. This week our guest speaker is Charles Grant, Ph.D.,Founding Chair of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Educators.
Charles has thirty five years' experience in education: ten years in a public school as a classroom teacher and an assistant principal and twenty five years in community college education. He has served as an Instructor of Management Development, Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Continuing Education, Vice President of Instruction and President for ten years. He is also Past President of North Shore Rotary Club, Past Assistant Governor of Rotary District 5890, District 5890 Rotaract Chair for five years. He has served as a sponsor of the San Jacinto College North Rotaract Club for 25 years and is a Past Chair of the RI Worldwide Rotaract Committee.
Charles talks to us about one of Rotary International's newer fellowships, and who and why Rotarians, family members of Rotarians, Rotaractors, alumni, and program participants should become members of this fellowship.
