Message from our President

As the 2024-2025 President of our Club, I welcome our members, friends, and guests. Thanks for joining our weekly meeting!

WEEKLY FUNNY WITH SHAGS

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Steven "Shags" Shagrin!

Things to Ponder

- Why is it that if someone tells you that there are 1 billion stars in the universe you will believe them, but if they tell you a wall has wet paint you will have to touch it to be sure?

- "I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I Do," is the longest sentence

- When cheese gets its picture taken, what does it say?

INSPIRATION

A third in our set of sharing great videos from our club's first year! This one is about CNA, a company that connects teens in Brazil and senior citizens in the United States for language practice. As our club is one founded on the idea that technology when used well has the potential to strengthen communities and build a better world, it's powerful to have a story like this to share.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Is it Normal to Talk to Yourself?

Thanks to Cecilia Babcock for this one! "Dig into the psychological benefits of positive self-talk, and find out when it can become problematic."

PROGRAM: Building Better Futures for California Farmworkers

SPEAKER: Diana Silva

We bring you a new program every week on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education and how they contribute to service to others.

The Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley seeks to explore perspectives on service from across the world. The views of the speakers in our programs are their own and, unless stated otherwise, are not necessarily reflective of the views of our eClub or Rotary International.

If you have an idea for a cool speaker, please feel free to reach out to them directly or submit THIS FORM so our Program Committee can contact them!

Today's presentation sheds light on the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF), a nonprofit organization based in Delano dedicated to empowering farmworkers to have a voice in their communities. The organization's core mission is to enhance the quality of life for California farmworkers through tailored programs and services. Operating at the grassroots level, CFF employs a user-centered approach to customize its offerings to meet the specific needs of farmworkers.

With a significant expansion in personnel and coverage across six counties, CFF's Outreach Specialists engage with thousands of farmworkers weekly in California, reaching a total of over 90,000 individuals in 2023. During this presentation, you will learn about the ongoing initiatives undertaken by CFF to address farmworkers' needs and provide essential solutions to enhance their overall well-being.

Our speaker, Diana Silva, holds the position of Communication Director at the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF). With her family roots deeply connected to the farm-working community, she draws inspiration from her grandparents, who were farmworkers after immigrating from Mexico. As the first in her family to earn a college degree, Diana graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communication from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Her dedication to agriculture, community service, and the desire to continue generational progress motivated her to join CFF in 2021.

Members and guests, please welcome Diana Silva!

THE ATTENDANCE SURVEY

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done.

We have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeup.

Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.

For all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!

Important: Once you submit the Attendance Survey below, please make sure you see the confirmation message. If you get an error message instead, please try the 'submit' button again, and if that doesn't work, please refresh the page and fill out the form again. Thanks!
