Welcome to the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley!

Here’s a message from President Tzviatko:

Greetings Rotarians and Guests,This week we have our member Suzanne who will be telling us about her exciting new project - Compass Series - a mobile app for youth!Since we'll be hearing about an app :) what is a favorite app of yours you'd like to share with others? One of mine is Hoopla. It's an app for ebooks, audiobooks, and more (and if you're in the US you can likely get it for free with your public library card).

Sincerely,

Tzviatko

President, Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley

Guests, we are happy to have you join us this week!

As we see it, our flexibility as an online, asynchronous club allows a special type of service to Rotarians around the world: we make it easier for anyone to strive for and maintain 100% attendance. That keeps you engaged with Rotary's events and ideas, and provides a moment of inspiration for devoting your creativity, talents, and resources to good causes. You are certainly not required to pay anything in order to attend our meetings. However, if you would like to make a small contribution to our service efforts, you are welcome to do so in our secure Happy Dollars section down the page. This could be what you normally pay at your own club's meetings for lunch, for example. Any amount is welcome, but first and foremost, we're happy you've joined us, and hope you will share with others who we are and what we do to help inspire Service Above Self. And don't forget to fill out our attendance form so you get an email you can pass on to your club's secretary!

Weekly Inspiration

Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.

Sandra Tovar trains six days a week, three times a day, and has her eye on winning an Olympic gold medal. At 17 years old, she’s the nation’s number one boxer in her weight class, and she’s training alongside other young women in Fresno, California, who are serious contenders in what was once considered solely a men’s sport. Since 2017, four women from California’s Central Valley have finished first or second at the junior Olympics. The secret to their success in the ring? These young female athletes have strength, determination and the support of a community that raises funds so they can compete on a national level.

Member  Spotlight

This week's Member Spotlight is Celine Neal! Here is what she has been up to lately:

My name is Celine Neal and I am from Belize. For those of you that don't know where I live, Belize is located in Central America and is the only English speaking country. As a new entrepreneur I am learning to juggle my time between work and volunteering. I have recently engage in a fun projects and fundraiser to raise funds for the Belize Cancer Society San Ignacio Branch. The idea came about when Matthew (a member of the BCS San Ignacio Branch) chose to grow his hair since November 2018 and on a whim considered going bald and donating his hair to the Belize Cancer Society. I told him it was a good idea and that I too would like to join in, but unfortunately I cannot donate my hair since it's not unprocessed hair. After receiving an email of our financial report from our Cancer Society Branch, we were discussing how we could possibly raise more funds. We decided to create a GoFundMe account for our "guh bald fuh wa cause" (Go bald for a cause) campaign. On October 26th 2019 at the end of our annual Cancer Awareness Walk we will be going live on Facebook so that you all can witness us "guh bald" at the event. We also hope it might inspire you and others to do the same to donate your hair or create other fundraisers to help organizations within your community. Each year more people are affected by cancer and finance is one of the biggest challenge we face as we try our best to help everyone who seek assistance from the Branch. So I am humbly asking you to help us meet our goal of $3,000USD.Please donate any amount you can and share our campaign with others.Every little bit counts, and in the words of Mother Teresa "it’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving."Please find the link below for our campaign and the facebook page of the Belize Cancer Society San Ignacio Branch to learn more about the nonprofit organization.https://www.gofundme.com/f/symuk-guh-bald-fuh-wa-cause?sharetype=teams&member=2862830&pc=fb_tco_campmgmtbnr_m&rcid=r01-156831090962-e3dd1effb46a45ab&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_lico%2Bbannerhttps://m.facebook.com/pg/BelizeCancerSocietySanIgnacioBranch/posts/

Coffee With a Rotarian

A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.

This week we have Tatiana from Vancouver, BC, Canada  reporting on a chat with Brett from Sydney, AustraliaBrett and I had a chance to speak tonight, Friday the 16th. It was lovely to talk with Brett and to hear how he came to join the e-club, as well as to hear about some of his Rotaract Rotary experiences, and also past convention experiences. Really informative and also a wonderful way to get to know another club member. We also talked a bit about Sydney and Vancouver's housing markets and their costs, as well as our respective government policies on family leaves, etc, which was very interesting. We encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian. You can sign up here!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good

Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.

Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)

Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week! This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.

Brian Liddicoat made a $15 donation.Too busy to think of a good reason right now! Take my money!

Rory Olsen made a $20 donation.Nice week so far, except for the Texans losing their opener to the Saints. Please apply my gift to Polio Plus.
