WEEKLY FUNNY WITH SHAGS

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Steven "Shags" Shagrin!

Blame the Paper Boy

A teenage girl had just been given family car privileges. One Friday night she returned home very late from a party.

The next morning her father went out to the driveway to get the newspaper and came back into the house frowning. At 11:30 am, the girl sleepily walked into the kitchen, and her father asked her, "What time did you get in last night?"

"Not too late, Dad," she replied nervously.

Deadpan, her father said, "Then I'll have to talk to the paperboy about putting my paper under the front tire of the car."

INSPIRATION

Our speaker this week is Béatrice Zre of Femme Plus, and we'll use this video slot to share a bit about what her organization is doing in the Ivory Coast.

PROGRAM: Rotary in Femmes Plus Activities for Women's Empowerment in Africa

SPEAKER: Beatrice Zré

We bring you a new program every week on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education and how they contribute to service to others.

The Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley seeks to explore perspectives on service from across the world. The views of the speakers in our programs are their own and, unless stated otherwise, are not necessarily reflective of the views of our eClub or Rotary International.

If you have an idea for a cool speaker, please feel free to reach out to them directly or submit THIS FORM so our Program Committee can contact them!

(Today's speaker is presenting in French, and we thank Valerie Sun for providing translation help. As such, the recording is longer than a typical program.)

Béatrice Zre is a specialist in the management of NGOs and community-based organizations. She has more than 15 years of experience as an NGO manager in Togo and Ivory Coast. After her last NGO management position finished, she decided to devote herself to humanitarian and social works. This is how she created the NGO Femmes Plus, with the aim of providing solutions to the recurring problems that women in Africa face.

In addition to her commitment to Femmes Plus, Béatrice was a member of the Rotary Club of Paddington from 2016. After the dissolution of the Paddington club, she joined the Rotary Direct Membership in 2023. She collaborated with Rotary clubs on several projects that have had a significant impact on populations in Africa. Her mentor, Rotarian Mac Purcell, gave her a PHF last year in recognition of her hard work for the benefit of her community. Mac is a Major Donor and Bequest Society Member Level 6, and works with Béatrice to empower women and girls in Africa, focusing on the support of Rotary clubs to make the empowerment of women and girls in Africa a reality.

The mission of Femmes Plus is to promote women's rights and highlight their contribution to achieving sustainable development goals. It is managed by a Rotarian and supported by Rotarians. Femmes Plus' work aims to promote female entrepreneurship, female leadership, health, education and the protection of women and children. The organization is committed to reducing gender inequalities and achieving women's empowerment and equal opportunities.

Members and guests, please welcome Beatrice Zre!

THE ATTENDANCE SURVEY

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done.

We have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeup.

Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.

For all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!

Important: Once you submit the Attendance Survey below, please make sure you see the confirmation message. If you get an error message instead, please try the 'submit' button again, and if that doesn't work, please refresh the page and fill out the form again. Thanks!
