Weekly Inspiration
Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.
Mitsuo Nakatani is a mochi master, and to watch him do his work is a genuine thrill. Turning sticky rice into Japan’s traditional soft and chewy treat requires pounding, flipping and smashing the glutinous rice at high speeds in perfect coordination with a team. While visitors come to Nakatani’s mochi shop to taste the best, they stay to watch him make it.

Mt Whitney is the highest peak in the continental US located in the Eastern Sierra. This photo was taken several years ago from the east side near Lone Pine in the Alabama Hills on an early winter morning after sunrise. I caught the moon just before it set behind the mountain.

Hi, everyone! It's August, and I've put together another Tech Tidbit for our Learn Something New section. Can I get a woohoo? If not, I'd suggest re-ordering things so that you're having more fun.This one is on a Gmail feature called Undo Send. Not hard to guess what that's about, of course, but if you don't know about it, using this may save your posterior at a critical moment. In life, it's good to collect that which may allow for a posterior save.As always, you are welcome to critique the video without mercy. Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Roger from Kamloops, BC, Canada reporting on a chat with Ferheen from Santa Clara, CA, USA.

Gildart, Nate: I did photography and video for my hometown's Friends of the Public Gardens. They had an event that was tied to the Japanese Tanabata festival on July 7th. I'm now a "Friend of the Public Gardens" and hope to assist with the preservation and promotion of this national historic site. (apparently, the most visited in Nova Scotia!) The purpose was to bring people together in the gardens for family-friendly activities.Stabile, Sandy: Painted tree posts to look like pencils. They will be used for a garden that will be made for an elementary school in Fremont. This project was also used to show young adults how they can become involved with Rotary. This project was sponsored by Niles Fremont RotaryChiderov, Tzviatko: Built a basic website for the Rotary Club of Msasa in Harare, Zimbabwe (https://rotaryclubmsasa.com/); Provided advice and guidance to 2 young tech entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe.

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!This section is usually updated on the early hours of Saturday, so contributions made over the weekend may not be listed here.Rory Olsen made a $20 donation.Good week for me. I wish we had a program like this in Australia. It sounds like combined the two organisations have had a real tangible impact on the communities there.

Mitty and Yvonne - congratulations on your decision to lives of service together! Loved the video about mountain boarding and the story about Ella Lacey (nice tie-in to this week’s program). It was also fun to read Mark’s report on Maxi to get info on two of our southern hemisphere guys! Brian - get past that shoulder injury. It is better to be a good person with a weak shoulder than to have a perfect shoulder and be a weenie. Cal, great presentation! I hope I get to hear why Macedonia and Slovakia are tied together at some point.

Samantha is passionate about sharing the opportunities that Rotaract offers members. One of the most impactful opportunities she has been given, was the chance to travel to Zimbabwe on a Rotaract Trip which lead to a partnership between a local club and her two districts to supply disadvantaged women with reusable sanitary pads and the skills to make the product themselves.We often forget the privileged lives we are living and this travel experience and partnership was a reminder that we are all human, we all have hopes and dreams and we all have the same basic needs.
