Message from our President

Greetings Members and Friends of Rotary e-Club of Silicon Valley. As President of our Club, I want to welcome you all today.

WEEKLY FUNNY WITH SHAGS

We believe laughter is an important part of life, and we should all make time to laugh a little. This segment of our meeting is meant to tickle you just enough. These funnies are curated by member Steven "Shags" Shagrin!

Drinks on Me!!

A barhopping fellow, three sheets to the wind, stumbles into a bar and declares "I'm buying everyone in the bar a drink! Line 'em up, bartender!"

So the bartender pours everyone a drink, and frivolity commences until the bartender says to that first guy, "OK, that'll be $210."

The drunk guy says, "I don't have that kind of money!"

The bartender throws him out. A few minutes later, the drunk staggers back into the bar. This time he says, "I'm buying everyone in this bar a drink! Except for you bartender, when you drink, you get nasty."

INSPIRATION

Every week we share a short video highlighting innovation, education, entrepreneurship, or whatever we think might inspire you to see the world in new ways.

There's cool technology, and cool uses of technology, and then there's jetsuits. This video from Gravity Industries showing off how mountain paramedics might use what they've created is breathtaking.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Why Are Eating Disorders So Hard to Treat?

This is serious stuff and happens under our noses. I know, because one of my daughters was bulimic. With therapy, love, and a lot of self-care work, she's beyond it and healthy. But this is so true.

HAPPY DOLLARS: Do Good by Sharing Something Good

Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.

Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use.

PROGRAM: Solving Community Problems with what3words

SPEAKER: Khongoroo Otgonbayar

Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others.

The Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley seeks to explore perspectives on service from across the world. The views of the speakers in our programs are their own, and unless stated otherwise, are not necessarily reflective of the views of our eClub or Rotary International.

If you have an idea for a cool speaker, please feel free to reach out to them directly or submit THIS FORM so our Program Committee can contact them!

Innovation - with addresses?

Pinpointing places by conventional addressing requires navigating a variety of systems. Into that space steps what3words, a new global addressing standard used by thousands of organizations worldwide to help improve efficiency and internal operations with better addresses.

Our speaker is Khongorzul (Khongoroo) Otgonbayar, the Partnerships Lead at what3words, a global addressing system designed to simplify the communication of precise locations with just three simple words. Originally born in Mongolia, Khongorzul earned her degree in International Relations and Peace Studies from the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan, and soon after, joined what3words to expand the company's footprint across various sectors globally while managing a team of 12 at the Mongolia office of what3words.

In 2022, Khongoroo relocated to London to join the what3words team at its headquarters, and drawing on extensive experience in establishing partnerships in different parts of the world, she now works with humanitarian organizations, government authorities, emergency services, and small and medium-sized businesses as part of her work with what3words.

Members and guests, please welcome Khongoroo Otgonbayar!
