Here’s a message from our Club President.
Members and guests,
Welcome fellow Rotarians and friends and welcome to the new Rotary Year 2022-2023!
I want to begin by expressing my heartfelt thanks to Brett for his service as President during the past year. Brett and his team guided the club through the global pandemic and other challenges, and in the process, achieved amazing results. I would also like to congratulate each of the new Board members. I have already seen the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that you bring to the Board and I look forward to serving with you.
One of our main goals as a club is to contribute to our vision. We are a global Rotary eClub with members from different continents and a number of different time zones. For this reason, during my year as your President, I hope to increase member engagement, allowing us to increase our service to our community and our world. We will explore new ways to connect with each other, taking into account how we are spread across the globe. To support this, I would like each member to be associated with, and active in, at least one of our committees. We will also establish new ways to consolidate and build our membership. Our members have talents that we would like to tap into in order to do more for our members. So let’s find every opportunity to show the value of each and every member. The stronger our membership is, the better we can serve! Additionally, as Rotarians, we recognize the positive change that youth and young adults can make in the world of Rotary and in general. Therefore, we will develop leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and we will enrich and foster cultural understanding.
I think it’s important that our club reflects the global communities we serve. More varied perspectives in our clubs and in our leadership will help Rotary remain relevant in a changing and difficult world. Without question, COVID-19 has posed new and previously unimaginable challenges for Rotary. Ensuring access to healthcare was and is still critical and involves several challenges. But within every challenge is perhaps an even greater opportunity. The global pandemic has made all of us much more aware of the importance of healthcare than we were before. As a result, we will think about how the club can focus on helping tackle medical challenges and setting an example for others. We believe our support can really make a difference to those who need our help most and can transform lives through meaningful service projects.
This is a brief overview of our priorities.
Sustain and increase membership activities
Implement successful service projects leveraging technology for better health outcomes
Expand our target audience by promoting & driving participation in our projects
Encourage vocational activities
Support the Foundation through program participation and community/international projects
These are just a few of the objectives we're pursuing, and we see the potential for some incredibly great outcomes.
In closing may I say that I am proud to be a Rotarian! This is a feeling that I really want to share with you all in the new Rotary year. I am coming from a long family tradition of Rotary service and community involvement, so I am honored and humbled to serve as President of the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley for the new year. I know it will not be easy but, with the help and support of my Board members and fellow Club members, I will do my best to meet the challenge.
We can be proud of our capacity to adapt and unite, and we will continue to embrace our motto, Service Above Self, every day. I know Rotary means different things in different parts of the world, but we all share our core values and are united by The Four-Way Test. So, I encourage you to take an active role in sharing these ideas and imagining Rotary. “Imagine, a world that deserves our best,” as our Rotary International President Jennifer Jones said. Let’s get out there and join in service while enjoying our time together!

As we see it, our flexibility as an online, asynchronous club allows a special type of service to Rotarians around the world: we make it easier for anyone to strive for and maintain 100% attendance. That keeps you engaged with Rotary's events and ideas, and provides a moment of inspiration for devoting your creativity, talents, and resources to good causes.
You are certainly not required to pay anything in order to attend our meetings. However, if you would like to make a small contribution to our service efforts, you are welcome to do so in our secure Happy Dollars section down the page. This could be what you normally pay at your own club's meetings for lunch, for example. Any amount is welcome, but first and foremost, we're happy you've joined us, and hope you will share with others who we are and what we do to help inspire Service Above Self.

A Real Throwback Joke -- To the 70s!
This bit of humor references two things from the early 1970s: Euell Gibbons, who was a well-known natural food proponent who appeared in commercials for Post Grape-Nuts ceral, and "streaking" -- which is running through a public area in the buff. Why this today? When you get to Learn Something New you'll find out!

A: He's the one with the goldenrod and the wild hickory nuts!

After a two year hiatus for Covid, the fireworks show returned to the bay in Sausalito, CA. Fog obscured some of the best displays. The best way to photograph fireworks is with a digital camera on a tripod. Use a focal length of f11-f16 and a cable release. Set the shutter speed to "bulb". Hold the shutter open from 10 sec to 1 min.

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)

Program: Exploring a New Model of Rotary Club

Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others.
The Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley seeks to explore perspectives on service from across the world. The views of the speakers in our programs are their own, and unless stated otherwise, are not necessarily reflective of the views of our eClub nor Rotary International.

One of the best things a Rotary club can do is to help launch another club. In this talk, Past President Mitty will share ideas on a new model of the Rotary club that he is working to start. Join in to learn more about this different approach, and add your questions as we help him refine his plan; perhaps you'll even want to get involved!
For those of you who don't know Mitty, here's a little bio:
Entrepreneur. Business Owner. Professional Speaker. World Traveler. Rotarian. Rotaractor. Mitty founded his first company at age 13 and joined the Rotary family as an Interactor when he was 14 years old. Mitty has started two Rotaract Clubs, Big West Rotaract MDIO, and was part of the team that started the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley. Mitty has served as Rotaract Club President, Rotary Club President, Past Chair of the Rotary International Rotaract and Interact Committee, Assistant Rotary Coordinator, Assistant Public Image Coordinator, and many other leadership roles within the Rotary family. Mitty has spoken to Rotarians around the world at District Conferences, International Conventions, International Assembly, Zone Institutes, and everywhere in-between on membership best practices and on how to attract young professionals into Rotary. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mitty is currently the CEO and President at Candeavor, an award-winning digital agency that provides web development and digital marketing services to companies throughout the country. In his free time, Mitty loves to food adventure, and to travel.
