Greetings Rotarians and Guests,As I sit in a coffee shop in central Sofia, Bulgaria writing this, I am filled with appreciation for diversity. When I was growing up in Bulgaria (many years ago) you could rarely see foreigners here, but now all it takes to hear languages of all sorts is just a quick stroll down main street.I also appreciate the diversity of backgrounds, ages, cultures, languages and geographies that our club offers and I'm thankful for being a part of this group with all of you.We are nearing the beginning of a new Rotary year, and it is fitting that we focus on the good work Rotary is doing around the world. This week's speaker will tell us about the Rotary Club of Jawalakhel and the impact it's had on people in Nepal.Enjoy the program and don't forget to let us know you were here by filling out the attendance survey.

There has been a lot of news lately about all the climbers on Mt Everest so I thought I would share one of my mountain photos. Denali (formerly Mt McKinley) in Alaska is North America's highest peak. During my visit there in 2014, we got a rare glimpse of the mountain that is usually enshrouded in clouds.
Coffee With a Rotarian
A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.
This week we have Ferheen from Santa Clara, CA, USA reporting on a chat with Maxi from Mountain View, CA, USA.I had the pleasure of chatting with Maxi this month for my CWaR! Did you know that Maxi works for the Gmail team at Google? We talked quite a bit about the inner workings of Gmail and I expressed how excited I was to learn that you can now schedule emails to be sent in the future!!! You can pretend to be working at 2am - or so he said ;)There's another REALLY cool feature that he showed me how to use - the ""snooze"" button! You can select any email to be sent back to your inbox at a later date, especially an email that you don't need to deal with right away and you want to keep your inbox clean. I love this feature too.We also talked about Rotary and how we got involved with the organisation, as well as some things we would like to see happen in our club, like having more socials :) We are working on planning a hike in August so we hope that the Bay Area folks will be able to join! Thanks for such an awesome CWaR, Maxi!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)

Every week we bring to you a new program on innovation, entrepreneurship, and education, and how those contribute to service to others. Special thanks to member Roger Plested for leading our club's Programs Committee in finding us amazing speakers each week.
Ajang (AJ) Bhandari is a member of the Rotary Club of Jawalakhel and he presents to us all the amazing work his Rotary Club does for the people of Nepal. Truly inspiring, the Rotary Club of Jawalakhel has done almost 30 projects in their country, supporting their most rural villages. Their most impactful project is the Life Cycle Project in which, through the help of partner clubs in the US, they provide services throughout the villager's lives - from maternal health to nutrition for children to education and work opportunities for women. Please take the time to listen to AJ talk about the power of his Rotary club - they truly embody "Service Above Self."
