This week we are celebrating 116 years of selfless service in the world!
Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.
Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world.
With every project, we’re changing the world for the better. Happy anniversary!

I am mentoring a HS student who has a senior project in Astrophotography. We recently found a clear night with no moon light to go for a photo shoot. I took this photo of St Mary's church in Nicasio (Marin County, CA). It required 35 minutes with 100 exposures (20 sec each with "stacking" in Photoshop). Some of the foreground lighting was provided by passing cars. The dead tree on the right was an unexpected bonus. Can you tell me which direction my camera is pointing based on the pattern of the star trails?

A Repeated LSN, Sorta...
A while back I introduced you to the Nicholas Brothers. I recently came across a digitally enhanced and colorized version of the dance they did in the film Stormy Weather back in 1943 with Cab Calloway and his orchestra performing "Jumpin' Jive". Last time it was lower quality resolution and in the original B&W issue, but today's innovation and technology takes things to an entirely different level, and with additional stuff!!
Do a YouTube search for Nicholas Brothers and look at their work from when they were much, much younger -- it's amazing! And from what I've seen when they were about my age -- modern hip and knee replacement technology would have made their later lives much better. Dance on!!

Happy Dollars: do good by sharing something good
Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.
Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)

First, please apply my gift to Polio Plus. Second, we have had an awful week so far. Over the past weekend, a gigantic cold front blew into Texas. From el Paso to the Sabine River from the Texas Panhandle to Brownsville, it was snow and ice. Texas, which has had its share of hurricanes, dust storms and tornadoes had never, ever had a cold front this massive. Here at home, the power went off early Monday morning. It came back on for a few hours, but it was mostly off until last night. Living in a fifty-four-degree house for several days is no fun. Power is back for a while, but it is expected to get cold again tonight. Been an interesting week.

Passionate about giving voice to those without one, Nate Salpeter co-founded Sweet Farm just south of Half Moon Bay, CA with his wife Anna Sweet out of the recognition that industrialized farming has had a profoundly negative impact on the lives of billions of animals as well as plant-based agriculture. A Ph.D. engineer working in the nuclear industry, Nate brings his analytical mindset to the animal welfare space where he, his wife (Anna Sweet), and an incredible team have built Sweet Farm to be more than only a farm animal rescue, but also to be a place of education, inspiration, and innovation through animal rescue, plant-based agriculture, and technology initiatives to scale change in the food system globally. Nate and Anna are active advisors and investors in the alternative protein, agriculture technology, and sustainability sectors.
Their Goat 2 Meeting program is Sweet Farm’s pivot into the post-COVID world, helping put smiles on people’s faces while executing on Sweet Farm’s mission to educate and inspire change in the way people think about what’s on their plate and how it impacts the world.
Nate Salpeter, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Sweet Farm Foundation, shares concepts of interconnections between food, action, and investment. In his presentation, we learn how the team at Sweet Farm is pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a sanctuary and how impact can be made locally and globally through targeted efforts that leverage education, inspiration, and innovation.
